This is how short leasing works for project-based work

A consultant who has been in Eindhoven for six months. Three technicians who drive daily to a construction project in Rotterdam for a quarter. An interim manager who will strengthen the financial team until the summer. They all need a car temporarily, but none of them fit into a regular four-year lease contract. Shortlease offers a solution that changes with the duration of the project. At VWP Shortlease, you can arrange that within 24 hours, all-in and without long-term obligations.

Why does regular lease not suit project-based work?

Regular lease contracts usually run for 36 to 60 months. This period is suitable for a permanent employee with a permanent contract, but not for an assignment of three or six months. If you do opt for a regular contract, the consequences are predictable: after the end of the project, the car stops while the monthly costs continue.

Early cancellation is rarely free of charge with a regular lease. Leasing companies charge a lump sum for the remaining term. The longer the contract, the higher the costs if you want to quit earlier. The big difference with short lease: you choose a short fixed term that matches the duration of the project. For example, if you opt for a fixed period of three months, you will be flexible after that period and you will cancel with five business days of notice. This makes short leasing much more suitable for companies that work with changing projects.

How does short leasing work for temporary projects?

With a short lease, you link the car to the duration of the project. You agree on a fixed period that matches the expected duration of the assignment, for example three or six months. After that period, the contract becomes flexible and the notice period is only five business days. Is the project coming to an end? Then you just keep driving. Does the assignment stop exactly as planned? Then you return the car and pay nothing extra.

It pays to align the contract period as closely as possible with the expected duration of the project. Are you expecting a three-month assignment? Therefore, choose a fixed period of three months. After that period, the contract becomes flexible and you cancel with five business days notice. This way, you can combine a competitive monthly price with maximum freedom once the project ends.

The contract operates on a full operational lease basis. This means that insurance, road tax, maintenance, tires and roadside assistance are all included in the monthly amount. Your employee only needs to fill up. This way, as an employer, you know exactly how much the mobility costs for that project, without any surprises afterwards.

Scale up and down without hassle

By definition, project-based work is unpredictable. You need five cars this month, two next month. With a regular lease, you are bound by the number of contracts you have concluded. With short lease, you scale with reality.

Will you win a big tender? Then VWP Shortlease often delivers the extra cars within 24 hours. VWP has its own stock in Nijverdal and delivers throughout the Netherlands. Is a project ending? When the fixed period is over, cancel the excess contracts with five business days notice. This way, you only pay for the cars you actually need.

This flexibility makes short leasing particularly suitable for business short leases for secondments, contractors, consulting firms and other companies with varying mobility needs.

Shortlease vs. renting: when is short leasing cheaper?

Many companies use a rental car for a temporary project. That works great for a few days, but for longer periods, the bill increases quickly. Rental prices are calculated per day, and in addition, mileage surcharges, insurances and extra costs are often added.

Shortlease at VWP works differently. You pay a fixed monthly fee that includes insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance and road tax. With a three-month project, you know exactly how much the mobility costs in advance, with no surprises on the final invoice.

How quickly can you start shorting a project?

At VWP Shortlease, you often drive within 24 hours. The process takes place in three steps: you choose a car from the offer, VWP performs a quick acceptance based on KVK data and, after signing the contract, the car is delivered to the address of your choice. No weeks of waiting, no piles of paperwork.

So suppose the customer calls on Monday that the project starts on Wednesday and your employee needs to be there. This is possible with short leasing via VWP.

Short lease as a fixed pillar of your project mobility

If you work structurally with projects, you can use short lease as a fixed mobility solution. Instead of thinking about cars again for each project, you set up a fixed process: new project, new short lease request from VWP. This saves time, administration and money compared to arranging a rental car over and over again.

VWP Shortlease has more than 20 years of experience with business customers and a customer rating of 8.6 out of more than 700 reviews. Do you want to know how short leasing fits your company's projects? View the business short lease offer or contact us for an informal conversation.
