Short-term lease with BKR

Can I short-term lease with a negative BKR registration?

Yes, you can! But it depends a bit on which leasing company you work with. Indeed, with most traditional leasing companies, you are registered with the BKR by default when you conclude a lease contract. This is because you are actually taking out a type of loan for a longer period of time (more than 12 months). So yes, your lease contract is then viewed in the same way as a personal loan.

Since 1 April 2022, the full amount you pay during your lease period has been registered with the BKR. Suppose you pay €400 per month and your contract runs for 24 months. Then you are registered with the BKR for €9,600. At VWP Shortlease, things work differently. Here you can short lease without BKR registration, our contracts are short-term, some are even after one month cancellable.

Why not a BKR registration with VWP Shortlease?

With a standard traditional lease contract, if you make a commitment for a longer period of time, then the mandatory BKR registration comes into play. With a short lease, you do not enter into a long-term obligation but a short-term liability of your choice. Do you no longer need the car? Or is your financial situation changing? No problem, you can simply return the car after the short term of the contract! That is why VWP Shortlease does not work with BKR registrations.

How do we work with a negative BKR registration?

Of course, at VWP Shortlease, we want to make sure you can meet your obligations. That is why we carry out a credit check before you can short lease a car and we are generally a little more critical if your BKR is registered. After all, we want to ensure for both parties that you can meet the obligations you have entered into. We use the rules below.

Deposit and acceptance

When you conclude a lease contract, we determine how high your deposit will be based on external information. This is usually two monthly instalments, with a minimum of €1000, but can therefore be higher if the BKR registration is negative. At our acceptance department, we work with a traffic light system.

How does that work? Simple: green light means that everything is fine and you pay the standard deposit. Bee orange light it can still go ahead, but we'll ask you for some extra information or a higher deposit. Red light? Then cooperation is unfortunately not possible. Have you finished leasing and did you log out the car properly? Then we will settle the deposit with the final bill. Is there anything left? Then we will refund that within 30 days of the settlement.

We keep those 30 days because sometimes unexpected costs such as fines can come in that we have to settle first.
